I BELONG

Proud, tall, invincible, those were my feelings as I took my first steps into the dim corridor, careless of the fact that what was my ticket to heaven two weeks ago has just become my ticket back to hell, I was thinking of the long awaited chats I will have with family and friends, with the great times I will spend with the people I care about, but in my mind something else was growing with each step further I take, with every new yet familiar scene I see, somehow everything felt in place, people looked different, they were closer, even the passport officers with their grumpy faces looked kinder, and after I stepped out of the customs and meet my family, and with all the happy feelings I had there was still something else running in he background, something that was feeding on the scenes of old cars crawling on the road back from the airport, of the word “Damascus” written on every license plate, of the trees standing to the side of the road greeting cars passing by..
I had this feeling before but never this strong, I knew what it means but never this clear, for the first time in my life I truly realized what the word “Citizenship” mean, for the first time in my life I truly felt I BELONG!!
